這是至今我第一次也是唯一一次見到螳蛉，許多人初見螳蛉時可能與我一樣，將他誤以為是螳螂。因為，螳蛉的三角頭型，兩顆大複眼，加上瘦長的前胸和一對特化的前足，十足螳螂的模樣。 螳蛉的成長過程：卵─幼蟲─蛹─成蟲，屬於完全變態！ 仔細觀察幾處與螳螂不同的細節。翅膀：螳螂的翅膀是水準貼於腹部；螳蛉的翅膀則拱成屋脊狀。特化的鐮刀狀前足：螳螂脛節是「往上」反折，與腿節併合收束著；螳蛉其脛節則是「往下」反折 ，與腿節併合的。

This is the first and only time I have ever seen mantis-flies (mantid lacewings). When many people first saw mantis-flies, they might be like me and mistake it for a praying mantis. Because of the triangular head shape of mantis-flies, two large compound eyes, plus a slender chest and a pair of specialized forefoot, its appearance totally resembles that of the praying mantis. The growth process of mantis-flies goes through eggs-larvae-pupae-adults, and they are completely metamorphic! Looking closely we can see several details that differentiate them from mantis. Wings: The wings of the praying mantis are horizontally attached to the abdomen; the wings of the mantis-flies are arched into a ridge shape. Specialized sickle-shaped forefoot: the mantis’ tibia folds upwards and merges with the leg; the mantis-flies’ tibia is folded downwards and connects with the leg.
